Our story
OUR STORY
SASI'I was inspired by our mother, originally from Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca. Through her stories, her love for tradition, and her connection to the art of the huipil, we grew up understanding that every woven piece carries more than beauty. It carries memory, community, and identity.
In many artisan communities, mothers and grandmothers have woven huipils for generations. Yet too often, these women are forced to sell their work at unfair prices in order to meet basic needs. This reality threatens not only their economic stability, but also the continuity of a cultural legacy passed from mother to daughter.
SASI'I exists to help change that story. We work to create a bridge between artisan communities and people around the world who value authentic, handmade pieces. Every SASI'I huipil represents a connection: between the artisan and the wearer, between tradition and the present, between Oaxaca and the world.
A SASI'I huipil is more than a garment. It is a piece of heritage, a symbol of resilience, and a celebration of the women who weave dreams into every thread.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to preserve, celebrate, and share the cultural tradition of Oaxacan huipils from the coast of Oaxaca while supporting the artisan mothers who create them. Through fair and respectful collaboration, we seek to provide artisans with sustainable opportunities, honor their craftsmanship, and bring their work to a global audience that values authenticity, quality, and cultural heritage.
Every piece we share is part of a larger purpose: to protect tradition, empower communities, and remind the world that handmade work has value.
OUR VISION
Our vision is to become a global reference for authentic Oaxacan huipils, known not only for beauty and craftsmanship, but also for cultural respect, transparency, and positive impact. We envision a future where artisan women can prosper through their work, where ancestral knowledge is passed proudly to new generations, and where every huipil is recognized as a meaningful work of art.
SASI'I dreams of a world where fashion does not erase tradition, but helps preserve it.
OUR VALUES
Cultural Authenticity
We honor the roots, symbols, techniques, and stories behind Oaxacan huipils. Our work is guided by deep respect for the communities and traditions that make each piece possible.
Artisan Empowerment
We believe the women who weave these garments deserve fair opportunities, recognition, and dignity. Supporting artisan mothers means supporting their families, their communities, and the future of their craft.
Craftsmanship and Quality
Every huipil is made with patience, skill, and care. We value the slow process of handmade work and the beauty of pieces that cannot be rushed or mass-produced.
Fairness and Respect
We are committed to building relationships based on trust, fair compensation, and mutual respect. The hands behind each garment are central to everything we do.
Sustainability
We respect the land and the natural resources that make this tradition possible. From natural materials to artisanal processes, we believe in creating with care for both people and the environment.
Connection
Each SASI'I piece creates a bridge between cultures, generations, and stories. When you wear a huipil, you carry the spirit of the artisan who made it and the heritage of the land it comes from.
Social Commitment
SASI'I is committed to creating positive change in artisan communities. Every purchase helps support the continuity of this craft and the women who dedicate their lives to preserving it.
CULTURAL CELEBRATION, NOT APPROPRIATION
We recognize that huipils are not trends. They are symbols of identity, culture, and belonging. SASI'I was created from love for Oaxacan heritage and from a personal connection to the communities, mothers, and traditions that inspire our work.
Our intention is not to take from culture, but to honor it, support it, and help preserve it. We believe cultural celebration must be rooted in respect, collaboration, education, and fair exchange. That is why we are committed to working with artisan communities in a way that recognizes their knowledge, values their labor, and shares their stories with dignity.
To choose SASI'I is to choose authenticity over imitation, respect over extraction, and preservation over fast fashion.
